Objective and Outcomes: *

Course Objectives:
1. Participants will be introduced to the Science of Reading through participation in the online short course offered through The Big Dippers ($100 paid by school).
2. Each participant will complete 5 modules, including Checks for Understanding and the final course assessment. (approximately 10-12 hours online)
3. Participants will meet to engage in discussion and reflection of their module work.
4. Discussion sessions will involve 4 in person meetings. 3–one-hour sessions in June/July. 1 –two-hour session in August.
5. Participants will submit their certificate of course completion and reflection log.
6. Participants will apply the knowledge gained during the online course to plan reading instruction for the 2021-2022 school year.

The Big Dippers online short course ($100 fee will be paid by Prairie Rose). Choosing and Using Decodable Texts by Wiley Blevins. The New Art and Science of Teaching by Robert J. Marzano. Shifting the Balance by Jan Burkins & Kari Yates. Engagement By Design by Douglas Fisher, Nancy Frey, Russell J. Quaglia.

Evaluation and Evidence of Learning and Application: *

Participants will submit the online Certificate of Completion from The Big Dippers Course.
Participants will prepare reading plans for the start of the 21-22 school year. These plans may include changes in reading structures, schedules, and student groups. It may also include plans for delivery of phonological awareness, phonics, and reading instruction.
