Objective and Outcomes: 

Teachers and staff will understand the brain science behind children and our own emotional responses. We will learn tools and strategies to calm and deal with emotions positively and effectively.
Using several proven resources, we will learn how to teach and intervene with students for positive academic and social behavior skills.

Resources/Course Materials: 

We will focus on using the CASEL SEL goals tas adopted by our district to focus on appropriate SEL skill instruction at each grade/age level.
We will become proficient with our current district curriculum, Second Step, to teach SEL lessons at each grade level.
We will use online learning, book study and consultant presentations from Conscious Discipline, a brain science based Social Emotional learning resource to create school and classroom structures and lessons for student self-regulation.

Evaluation and Evidence of Learning and Application: 

Discussions in group professional development as well as PLCs.
Classroom demonstrations of SEL best practices and lessons for peers.
Reflection paper due to the principal on knowledge gained regarding the importance of teaching SEL to our students.
Attendance at 15 hours of professional development as scheduled with Custer team.
3-5 hours of reading
