Objective and Outcomes: *

The modules are based on more than forty years of research, including several foundational conceptual modules that explain how reading works. The following list includes the titles of each of the five modules covered in this course:
1. How Students Learn to Read: An Introduction to the Science of Reading
2. Structured Literacy
3. Word Recognition: An Encounter with Phonics
4. The Language Comprehension Domain
5. The Reading Comprehension Domain

This short course on the science of reading will equip participants with a foundational understanding of the Simple View of Reading and Scarborough's Rope, the basics of a structured approach to use when teaching each of the five components of reading, and tools that can be used to support planning and instruction in both the word recognition and language comprehension domains.

Module completion and attendance at face to face meetings

Evaluation and Evidence of Learning and Application: *

The learning in the modules is expected to be a total of about ten hours. In addition to the self-paced learning, participants will share their learning experience through five face-to-face meetings for discussion and journal entries for reflection.
