Objective and Outcomes: *

An 8 hr. session on June 19th, 2019 at the Bismarck Career Academy, presented by Dr. Adria Klein will cover the concept that language reflects though and needs to lead us to understand the impact of language on literacy development. The foundational importance of oral language, identifying teaching that can foster oral language and literacy development along with the reciprocity between oral language, reading and writing. The focus will be on English learners (but can be applicable to all students) including analyzing assessment data to deepen understanding of language structure.

Follow up to the training will include reading the book. "Cultivating Knowledge, Building Language"
Authored by Nonie K. Lesaux and Julie Russ Harris, which will be provided to participants.

As part of the extending hours, participants will implement learned strategies in their classroom and must select two deliverables to receive credit:

1)Submitting a Padlet link/video of strategy used in the classroom (from the session or the book (by December 19).

2)Attend a two hour follow up session the fall of 2019 (by December 19)

3) Reading and submitting a typed one-page reflection on the book "Cultivating Knowledge, Building Language" which will be provided for participants.

4) Attend a two-hour session on running record analysis- analyzing language structures (fall of 2019).
