Objective and Outcomes: *

1) Explain why conventional methods of teaching often fail with intense children, despite the best of intentions.
2) Shift a challenging child to using his or her intensity in successful ways, even if the child is diagnosed with ADHD, ODD, etc or exhibits other difficult behavior.
3) Apply the core methodologies of the Nurtured Heart Approach to build Inner Wealth™ in all children and create a richer social-emotional environment.
4) Create deeper, more meaningful connections and relationships between students, teachers, and administrators to help improve school culture.

Participants should be able to identify The 3 Stands™ of the Nurtured Heart Approach and use them together in order to not energize negativity, focus and create positivity and success, and establish clear boundaries and consequences in an unenergized way. NHA works as a classroom management tool but the ultimate goal is for every child to be seen and valued, to know their worth, and to build Inner Wealth™.

Resources/Course Materials: *

The presenter will use the Video Training Modules provided to her as an Advanced Trainer of the Nurtured Heart Approach. These copyrighted materials come from the Children's Success Foundation and Howard Glasser, the creator of NHA.
Participants will all receive a copy of Transforming the Intense Child Workbook by Howard Glasser.
Taking A Stand: The Art, Science, & Practice of Resetting by Melanie Gretsch, Lindsey Strasberg, Melissa Lowenstein and Howard Glasser will be referenced.
Greatness Kids Initiative by Celeste Elsey will be referenced and activities from the book will be implemented.

Evaluation and Evidence of Learning and Application: *

At designated PLCs, participants will share successes and be asked to write and reflect on their use of The 3 Stands™. Participants will be asked to do a short reflection video to share their experience. Participants will use the new learning every day as they connect with and teach students. Participants will continue to work on self-resets, not energizing negativity, helping students create and focus on positivity and success, and will have clear rules, boundaries, and expectations.
