Objective and Outcomes: *

Educators will gain the following from the ongoing professional learning:
1. Basic understanding of key 21st century skills (critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and
creativity) and the role these skills play in college, career, life readiness and employability.
2. An understanding of design thinking/process thinking, and their impact on creative confidence.
3. Definitions and basic elements of PBL, as well as basic implementation strategies for Standards-Based
Project-Based Learning (PBL).
4. Through structured and scaffolded professional learning experiences that build to an end
project/product to be implemented in the coming school year, educators will begin to gain the
professional confidence and capacity to create Standards-Based PBL experiences that are engaging,
relevant, and authentic for students, both individually and collaboratively.
5. Acquisition of and development of 21st century education best practices through ongoing, engaging
professional development sessions—including (but not limited to) the use of high impact engagement
strategies, how to engage students in design thinking across all disciplines, cooperative learning and
facilitation of strong collaboration, role of the teacher in a 21st century classroom, balanced assessment,
etc.
6. Personalized professional learning time to grow 21st century education capacity and build strong PBL
experiences for students.
7. Opportunities for solid collaboration with peers, especially around interdisciplinary planning and
connection.
8. Creation of one standards-based PBL unit (either individually or with team) to be used and implemented
as a part of the standard curriculum during the 2020-2021 school year.

Resources/Course Materials: *

Various course materials(journal articles, blog posts, web resources, etc.) will be provided throughout the course by Cultivate 21 to support learning and creation of strong standards-based and project-based learning experiences.

Attendance: *

The Professional Development Calendar for the year will identify dates required for attendance. Dates identified include sessions in August, September, October, November, January, February, March, and April.

Evaluation and Evidence of Learning and Application: *

Attendance at ALL sessions.
Completed PBL on the Cultivate 21 template submitted for feedback.
Instructor will share with building administrator plan for implementation.
