North Dakota Teachers participating in NMSI’s virtual training sessions will receive support in
• developing a deep understanding of the AP examination and scoring guides for their specific AP course.
• scoring student samples accurately.
• providing effective student feedback.
• using data to make instructional decisions.
• implementing instructional strategies to improve student performance.
• normalizing to the AP scoring guides and scoring student work more accurately.
• implementing instructional strategies to improve performance.
• identifying trends in student work in order to address ongoing content or skill deficiencies
• developing a short-term instructional strategy to better prepare students for the spring administration of the AP examination.
• using data to make to inform long-term curriculum planning and course development.

Resources/Course Materials: *

Teachers will leave training sessions with classroom-ready lessons and activities, AP scoring guides, and student samples. Teachers will have an opportunity to use information presented during the training to help them develop an instructional plan for presenting course curricula for the fall and early spring.

Attendance: *

Attendance is taken for each session and course completion certificates are granted.

Evaluation and Evidence of Learning and Application: *

The workshops will provide teachers with a variety of instructional strategies designed to help students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in the course and on the AP exam. Using model lessons, labs, activities, and tasks, participants will consider how different methodological approaches can help them address the content and skill issues revealed in the student samples they examined during scoring.

Trainers and teachers will discuss trends in student work and will consider techniques for providing effective feedback to students. In addition, teachers will examine strategies, lessons, activities, and tasks that address gaps in student ability or understanding before the exam. Teachers will leave the training with an understanding of how to use data to inform exam preparation, and they will create long-term plans for adjusting or modifying course implementation for the next academic year.

Participants are fully engaged in hands-on, learner-centered activities during each of the instructional days. Attendance is taken for each session and course completion certificates are granted for successful completion.
