Objective and Outcomes: *

School Retool is a school leader development fellowship that spreads deeper learning through a “Do It Yourself” approach. Through the program, we run regional cohorts of school leaders to support their learning about evidence-based “Big Ideas” from schools in the Deeper Learning network. The leaders work within a change framework to do small scrappy experiments we call “hacks,” in order to rethink what a school can look like, and how it can best encourage students to build knowledge and skills critical to academic and life success, including critical thinking, effective communication, collaboration, and an academic/learning mindset. Through this learning and work, leaders shift their own behaviors and mindsets, which catalyzes larger school culture change that can lead to the disruption of inequitable systems and outcomes over time.

School Retool will do the following for the cohort principals:
1. Provide a dynamic opportunity for school leaders to learn about Deeper Learning practices and strategies coupled with hands-on practice in applying a change framework in their schools
2. Leverage the experience and programmatic strength of School Retool within the ecosystem of ND
3. Connect the work of School Retool to other North Dakota learning opportunities to strengthen the overall community of practice dedicated to Deeper Learning outcomes for all students
4. The above goals will be accomplished by undertaking the following activities:
a) Facilitate the cohort experience, including the four in-person workshops
b) Provide coaching in between workshops (via video conference)
c) Provide all curriculum materials for cohort principals
d) Provide all internal operations and logistics for the facilitation of the cohort
e) Track principal learning metrics
Learners will meet on February through May 2019.
